Bridgerton is a great example of this exaggeration of the time and is meant to be a fantasy that people can’t escape to or romanticize. But again, you have to understand the bad parts of these fantasies. I do understand that most of these movies in media today that are based around this time are meant to be fantasies most of the time. Because if you want to appreciate an era in history or anything in general it is always advised that you understand the bad also. In a way it’s not only rude to romanticize these peoples hardships and utter suffering but ignorant to imagine just the good parts and ignore the bad. Now to take all of this into final account, it’s just not likely you would’ve loved that kind of pampered and noble life. Child deaths during infancy were at almost 45%. You had illnesses like tuberculosis and the worry of poisoning yourself with your own food and housing. From young ages they were forced into labor and working to support a family that could’ve had more than 5 or 4 family members to even 7. Usually this went on to the younger children who were often male or were more wanted to be male to support their family. Because of those kinds of events the people who would be providers for the family would then lose their financial stability from injury or death. Reasons were possibly getting sick from black lung due to coal mining or the caves collapsing. People had to sell their hair and work multiple jobs that were life threatening or did more harm than good to the future of stability for their families. For instance, in the 1800s the rate of poverty across the world was more than 81%. Because of media like this and movies that make these centuries in the past seem so beautiful and exciting, it’s less know about what it was actually like.
